2010 Year-end Blessings...

Tis the Season to be jolly... & a special time for reflection!

It was just a year ago, that I was in Jamnagar, India on an Intro to Ayurvedia Course and had decided I wanted to share this Lifestyle and wondrous treatments with others... I feel grateful to have accomplished this goal and blessed to be living it also! I'm now 21 weeks pregnant~ still a vegetarian, oiling my body daily & taking Ayurveda Home Remedies whenever the need arises.

I've had many clients share their experience of Wellness and recovery, however Riona Lall's story has touched me the most- so to speak ;-)

Shoulder stands, fish poses and oil!

"I have always thought of myself as a mixed bag of flavors: successful, driven, compassionate, fun, energetic, filled with joy etc.

Health was a given ( okay a little bit overweight – but nothing serious.) Over the last few years, I started to pick up weight but always managed to bring it back down , but with the scale creeping up little by little. I thought less active lifestyle (I started working in an office) and more stress etc were the cause.

Eventually creeping started turning to almost outward acceleration – in the wrong direction J. At the same time, my sister and mum were diagnosed with poor thyroid function. Oh o! So I had my thyroid tested and yes , turns out that’s the cause of the scale creep ( and some lazy lifestyle habits as well if I’m being truly honest)

“Medication – lifelong medication”, warned my endocrinologist, “ if you don’t improve”. Yikes! Really did not want to start chronic medication so young. First the body shock then the mental one – change is inevitable.

I needed to help myself...

I tried some main stream and not so main stream solutions and it worked after a little persistence!

My remedy: a combination of Yoga, Ayurveda and vitamin supplements.

· Daily shoulder stands followed by fish pose – really “works” your thyroid area. Yoga is the only system that stimulates and promotes the endocrine system.

· Oil massages (Abhyanga Oil Massage - body massage and Shirodhara – warm oil on the forehead) seemed more like beauty than health treatments and you feel great after wards.

· Vitamin D3 supplements and Omega 3 (oil again)

Of course this was not an overnight cure! But I do have the test results to prove theory:

1 year ago – thyroid function at 3.11 ( should be 1.5 at optimum)

6 months ago – no much movement – same sort of levels 3.11

Now – 1.45 ...Whew! ( And the only things I did differently – the yoga and the oil massages.)

Start investing in yourself by healing yourself on all the different levels – body , mind and spirit.

PS. You too can snore away in bliss on Claire's treatment bed – she really won't wake you up. Apparently it’s all part of the healing. "

Ayurvedic Tri-Dosha Cooking Course

The Ayurvedic Cooking Course was a huge success last Saturday 30th October '10! The food was light & tasty, and our guests enjoyed the fragrant smells of spice and beautiful colors of the food, as Roshni & I shared the basic principles of Tri-Doshic Cooking. Everyone especially enjoyed making their own Chapattis and they were the lightest I've ever tasted!

The Course is an initiative born out of sheer passion. Roshni Manga & Claire Stephenson are Ayurvedic Consultants who have recently returned from India where they studied a comprehensive course in Ayurveda at the Gujarat Ayurved University.

Having lived the knowledge of Ayurveda in terms of diet and lifestyle, we wish to share this profound knowledge, by sharing the mysteries, wonders and true essence of Indian spices and the method of cooking. After all, it’s the energy we receive from the food we prepare that allows us to maintain a happy & healthy life.

The finale was a wondrous meal comprising of Tri-Dosha Tea, Sprouted Mung Soup, Kitchadi, Veg Curry, Chapatti and Sweet Sev... Jai Ayurved :-)

Part 1 Retreat and Gurupoormina

On the move again- this time to nt' Shonalanga, nestled in the Schurweberg Valley, on the banks of the Hennops River. The 3-Day Part 1 Retreat was a great success, with 40 participants- one of whom was my partner Richard ( now a Kriya-initiate ;-) While he was in sessions- I was making light-work with Sri Sri Ayurveda Treatments, which was equally a success, with my days being fully-booked... Treating both Course participants and visitors from the Pretoria AOL Chapters. The long-weekend ended with a Gurupoornima Maha-Satsang, to celebrate this auspicious time of the year. For me the weekend was not only about reflecting on my Spiritual Growth over the past year, but also a time to connect to the beautiful nature surrounds and make new friends!

Sri Sri Ayurveda Cape Town…

One again... Seva takes me to the most beautiful and heavenly places ;-)

Greeting from the windy city- where the “Cape Doctor” gives me a head-ache every time it blows. I’m not complaining, as most of the time I’ve been working in a comfortable and cozy apartment- with the View of both Tale Mountain & Lion Head!! Every morning I have enough time to do my Sadhana, have a cooked breakfast and do some “bucket washing”- still like the Ashram! My day usually begins at 11am, with back-to-back bookings and time for lunch 'n Chai Tea. In the evenings, I’ve been attending Kriya, Satsang, enjoy the Sunsets or cooking for friends- it feels so good to share and provide for myself and others!! The Sri Sri Ayurveda treatments have been well received & I feel blessed for the opportunity to be here in Cape Town... To make new connections, build on old ones and plan for a future life here…

Blessings & love ;-)

Sunset... Gardens View!

Sunset @ Camps Bay... Heavenly!

Full Circle... (10 Feb '10)

Back at the Bangalore Ashram to fulfill my Sankalpa- 3 Years later! Things turned out a little differently than I imagined... I did my Sri Sri Massage Training in Bad Antogast, Germany and then came back to the source of this vast Knowledge & took the 3-Month Introductory Course in Ayurveda!! I was able to do SEVA along the way- living the majority of the time at the AOL Center in Hamburg, Germany and now my hope is to get more experience here at the NEW Panchakarma Center :-)

It all started with a Silence Meditation Course in the Presence of Guruji... The experience was amazing and our Swami Teacher just as funny :-) The hi-light being the Pooja, celebrating the Elements (the fundamental of Ayurveda), which was both a Cleansing and Renewing to my Spirit!! Exploring the Beautiful Gardens, Lake and Sumeru Mantap (where I do my own Practice in the early evening) have added to my relaxation! Our Satsangs are energizing with both hip & traditional songs AND Guruji's Knowledge, of course. Finally, I feel so grateful to have connected with old friends & travelers- family members, since in the Art of Living... We are all ONE!
